Questions to ask the seller
- Can you show Transportstyrelsen's "Fordonets skulder" (vehicle debt) service, or otherwise confirm there is no outstanding vehicle tax, congestion charge, or parking-fine debt tied to this vehicle? Unpaid vehicle debt transfers to the new owner in Sweden, not the previous one, and can lead to Kronofogden seizing the car.
- Can you provide the service invoice from 2026-06-23 (221,857 km) showing what work was performed and by which workshop?
- Has this vehicle had any insurance claims or accident repairs? Please provide claim/invoice documents if so.
- Please confirm the VIN-level recall status (which recalls, if any, have been completed) or provide documentation from BMW that fixes were applied for the airbag inflator/propellant and related campaigns.
- What is the full change-of-ownership history and what type of company is “Carla” (leasing/fleet/dealer/other)?
- What exactly does the dealer-provided Trafiksäkerhetsgaranti cover and what are the terms/cost for an extended warranty?
What to check in person
- Never pay a deposit or the full price before you've seen and test-driven the car in person — be wary of pressure to decide immediately ("today only" pricing), or a seller who avoids meeting or an independent inspection.
- Pay by bank transfer or Swish, never cash to someone you haven't met or verified, and complete the registered ownership transfer (ägarbyte) digitally at handover rather than leaving it for later.
- Verify VIN with BMW's recall lookup and confirm which recall campaigns (airbag inflator/propellant, blower connector, EPS) are closed for this chassis.
- Cold-start and hot-drive test for turbo smoke, unusual noises, and observe for oil leaks beneath the engine.
- Full test drive focusing on automatic gearbox behavior (smooth shifts, no slipping or hard engagements) and check for transmission fluid leaks.
- Check DPF status (regeneration history, soot levels) and ask for diagnostic readout if available.
- Inspect suspension, steering play and wheel bearings for wear; test at low and medium speed for knocks.
- Verify the 2026-06-23 service invoice physically and ensure key items (brakes, timing/drive components if relevant, oil change) were performed.
- Inspect underside for corrosion or repair evidence, and verify operation and mounting condition of the tow hitch (dragkrok).
- Confirm all major electrical systems and warning lights (airbag, ABS, EPS) are normal with no persistent fault codes.
